About StarCross StarCross Web Design is the brain-child of Cheryl Clayton. For almost 20 years she worked as a consultant in the technical writing, document control, QA and intranet\internet design fields. She went from contract to contract, never being able to put down roots for more than a year or two. She decided it was time to do something that could give her and her family something stable. In 2005 she came up with the idea for StarCross Web Design. Being a geek-head that had created and maintained a personal website since the mid-1990's, she had spent time learning what the internet could offer. She knew this new branch in her life had to involve the internet. She had designed intranet sites for some top companies and enjoyed creating clean and easy to use sites that would benefit the company. This epiphany (of sorts) was caused when Cheryl was hired to create a website for a small business owner. The owner insisted on a two page site that had over 80 graphic links placed individually on the company's main page. The company description he gave her to use was 1000+ words that was to be squeezed in between all these links. The accompanying Flash movies, animations and the twirly mouse pointer with the oil can trailer almost drove her insane. Against her protests that it was information overload and slow load time, the owner insisted. Six months later, due to the negative feedback from site users and the fact that he had barely sold anything, he abandoned it. Cheryl believes that less is more when it comes to a site. The reason behind this is that she suffered with dial-up internet for too many years. Loading all the web content sometimes took minutes instead of seconds (naps during downloads became options that were fully exercised). In the end, she created StarCross Web Design. A design company that believes simplicity should be brought back to the website creation form.
